Printing Guide

For those applications where a [completely] blank form is preferred, whether in the class room and at a VE station, FPC has what we call our "Class Room" version. You can find this version by selecting the "Instructor Resources" option on the FPC homepage. On the "Instructor Resources" page under the heading "Instructional Aids" is the "Millennium Edition Float Plan CV" (classroom version).

When printing the Float Plan for your packets, we recommend the following.

Supplies:

  • Pencil

  • The brightest white paper available for your printer (100-109 brightness).

Initial Preparation:

  1. Load the paper tray of your printer's input tray with paper.

  2. Lightly, place an "X" (in pencil) on the corner of the top sheet. This will help you easily reorient and align the stack back into your printer input tray for printing the reverse side. (Note: If your printer has two-sided printing capability you can eliminate this step).

  3. Always print the Float Plan your Flotilla produces for the boating public in color, and at the highest resolution your printer is capable of:

    • Studies have shown that color documents get noticed/read first;

    • It yields the most professional result;

    • Helps to reinforce to the boater that this is an important device.

For Single-sided Printers:

  1. From the Float Plan Central instructor Resources page, double-click on the "Millennium Edition Float Plan CV" link.

  2. When the Float Plan is loaded, select Adobe's "File" "Print" menu options respectively.

  3. Print the front-side of the plan (pages from 1 to 1), which is the side containing the fill-in blanks.

  4. Flip the stack over and reinsert the stack into your printer's input tray.

  5. Print the back-side of the plan (pages from 2 to 2), which is the side containing the Boating Emergency Guide.

For Two-sided Printers:

  1. From the Float Plan Central instructor Resources page, double-click on the "Millennium Edition Float Plan CV" link.

  2. When the Float Plan is loaded, select Adobe's "File" "Print" menu options respectively.

  3. Print the Float Plan.

Final Preparation:

  1. At the bottom of the page on the Boating Emergency Guide side, there is space provided to put your flotilla's contact information i.e. Flotilla Name, Web Address, Telephone Number, etc.

  2. You're now ready to insert a Float Plan in each packet.

Other Suggestions:

  1. Show the Boater the Float Plan, the world's only lifesaving device on paper. It helps to reinforce to the Boater that this is an important device.

  2. Show the Boater that the reverse side has step-by-step instructions for the Holder of the plan should the Boater not return or check in as planned.

  3. Inform the Boater that they can get additional copies of the plan, at no charge, from the Auxiliary's Float Plan Central web site, and that you have a link to FPC on the homepage your flotilla's web site. This way the Boater gets additional exposure about what your flotilla is doing, either before or after, accessing FPC.

  4. Tell the Boater to NEVER leave an extra copy of a prepared Float Plan in their vehicle where it can be read by the general public. This is a very important personal security measure. If you have ever seen the Discovery Channel's "It Takes A Thief" series, leaving a Float Plan in view of the general public either on the seat or dash of their vehicle, tells a potential thief everything they need to know ie. how long the Boater will be gone, when they will be returning, where they live, phone numbers to verify if anyone is home, etc.
