Trip Specific Plan

Example of USCG Float PlanThe Trip Specific planning method is ideal for non-routine, multi-day outings, that involve a larger geographic cruising area, are more complex and challenging to the operator's skills and/or that of the crew.  A very limited list of possible examples include:

  • Cruising a portion of the Great Lakes.

  • Island hopping across the Florida Keys.

  • Long distance Kayaking or rafting trip, especially if there are technically challenging elements along the route.

  • A multi-day voyage from one end of the Lake of the Ozarks to the other and back.

  • A multi-day voyage down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

  • A multi-day cruise up and down the coastline.

Creating a Trip Specific plan

Such trips by their very nature require more time in planning out the details Trip Specific Plans then, are always prepared in full detail.  Especially important are check-in dates and times.  The greater the distance or more time spent on the water, the more important check-ins become.
