About the Auxiliary
The
United States Coast Guard Auxiliary
is the civilian, uniformed volunteer component of the United
States Coast Guard, as well as the lead volunteer force in the
Department of Homeland Security. Founded in 1939 by an Act of
Congress as the US Coast Guard Reserves and re-designated the
Auxiliary in 1941. The 31,000 volunteer members (men
and women) donate thousands of hours in support of the Coast
Guard and Maritime Domain Awareness missions, such as Search
& Rescue, Public Education, Marine Environmental Protection.
The Auxiliary is looking
for a diversity of dedicated people who are interested in
recreational boating safety and assisting the Coast Guard as
Auxiliary members. Facility (boat, airplane, radio)
ownership is not required to become an Auxiliarist. We
need you to contribute your time and effort. Your
special and professional skills are useful to the Coast Guard
and Auxiliary.
Look us over,
ask us questions, and if
you like what you have learned, consider
joining the Auxiliary and becoming a valued member of the Coast Guard family.
